Alviss Consulting 

Alviss Consulting collects energy data and researches energy issues in Australia. Areas of specialisation include network and retail tariff analysis, assessing the costimpacts of energy policy initiatives, energy regulation, and energy affordability more broadly. Alviss is ideally suited for organisations seeking to increase their capacity in this field as services include targeted research reports along with the provision of background and methodological data.

Since its establishment in 2010, Alviss has collected data, produced research and provided advice pertaining to all Australian energy markets.

Alviss Consulting’s services include producing, providing and analysing extensive data sets (including historical tariff data), geo-mapping, writing research reports, contributing to submissions and advocacy, and advising energy service companies on energy retail market issues.

For geo-mapping, Alviss Consulting uses Esri ArcGIS. Mapping services can be provided for all datasets that benefit from geospatial data visualisation.

Alviss Consulting is based in Melbourne but works across Australia.

Data Provision

Energy retailers are required to publish electricity and gas offers on their websites. When an offer changes, however, this information is no longer available. A retail data subscription will allow you to analyse changes over time, compare different retail products for different customer classes and analyse new or different product offerings such discounting, tariff structures and product inducements as they emerge.

How We Do It

The Dataset

The dataset covers all states and territories and consists of approximately:
2300 residential electricity offers
2000 business electricity offers
500 residential gas offers

Data Collection Process

The data is collected manually from retailers’ websites. While this is more labour intensive than using automated software it allows us to detect errors in retailers’ statements and interpret unclear product messaging.


The dataset is updated once a month


Data can be purchased through a monthly subscription plan or as a single purchase. Both can be tailored to specific jurisdictions and/or network areas.
